The subjects

What a week holds

Each subject has its own teacher and its own hour, and the same few books and ideas turn up across them.

  • Literature and seminar

A book at a time, read in full, and talked over around one table.

  • Latin

Every day from kindergarten: words, endings, then sentences.

  • Logic

Asking good questions and checking the answers, from grade 3.

  • Writing and rhetoric

Copying a fine sentence, then writing one, then arguing for it.

  • Math and science

Number facts by heart, drawing with a straightedge, and a bench in the science room.

  • Art, music and nature

Singing together, drawing from objects, and a morning outdoors each week.
